Abjuration Wizard

A sketch of another female Wizard. To me, this one feels like an Aberration Wizard.

The Story

Drawing women is difficult for me. I think it's because I've always looked at myself in the mirror, or because I cut my teeth drawing faces by sketching angry men from comic books. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but honestly, it probably has to do with the subtlety of the structure of a female face.

Old men, or angry men, have a lot of lines that help you find the structure. Female faces are much more subtle, so to find that structure, you have to understand what the building blocks of the face are. You have to be intentional with every mark.

It's a never-ending journey, but it's a fun one. I think as time has gone on and I've put in the reps, I've gotten better, but I still see plenty of areas for improvement.

With this piece, I wanted to put expression, motion, and story into the sketch. Her staff and costume suggest that she's likely a wizard, while her hair blowing in the wind implies she may be standing on a blustery bluff.

Keep drawing and keep creating!
