Portrait of a female asian with long hair that creates a wonderful graphic shape.

Capturing likeness is never easy. Our brains are constantly trying to override what we actually see, simplifying faces into iconic shapes and familiar patterns.
Part of my portrait practice is focused on getting better at capturing likeness, and in this piece it was especially fun to play with the negative space created by her hair.
Every portrait presents a different challenge. You could draw the same person a thousand times and still end up with subtle differences in each one. That's part of what makes portraiture so interesting to me, there's always something new to observe and learn.
